Daniel saw the rocky mountain path and Eagle Eyes, his horse, edged her way toward it. He sat up happily and then kicked her into a fast, collected gallop. She galloped up the rocks and then Daniel saw the rocks ahead "jump honey, jump" he said and slowed her to a canter so she jumped cleanly over it. Daniel kicked her onward and further up the path and toward the top as he saw hoof prints on the stone to sense a heavy draft horse.
Eagle sniffed the mountain air and then the smell of a horse invaded the smell. She smelt a stallion but a mare was also here. She tossed her mane and then felt the soft grass under her pale hooves. As the mare looked up she saw a lake and then galloped over before putting in her muzzle and drinking the icy water happily as the sun beat down on her sweating back
Daniel felt his horse take a drink so he chose this time to dismount and walk around. He got the lasso in his hand and a halter in the other so he started to set off toward the trees and toward where the horses might be. He walked along the stream and then heard the gushing sound of a waterfall which ringed in his ears but he walked on until he couldn't bear the sound any longer. Daniel ran out of the forest and into the plains where he sat down and saw some horses.
Eagle had finished drinking so she wandered into the forest, looking for her master. She followed his scent and then stepped down in something wet so she looked down and saw the brook below her hooves. Eagle galloped over the brook and then saw her master so she stood in the trees and watched her master before whinnying. She hoped he would come and take the saddle off which would help her be less hot.
Daniel heard the whinny and sighed. He stepped into the trees and took off her saddle and bridle. As he put them on a fallen log he walked back and then sat back down on the ground and looked at the horses. He opened a little notepad and looked at the list of things to capture a horse, #1. Be calm and collected. Horses are sensitive to feelings of humans, and if they sense that you are scared or nervous, they will become the same.

Kohia looked up as she hared the winnie of a mare. The horse was wearing the straps, and harnesses, that stank of dead cow. The humans used these to control the horses they caught. She saw a human not too far away. If he thought that he was going to walk out of here with an extra horse on his hands, he could think again.
"Get out of here now"
She warned the mare, who was now free of the dead-cow-straps. It wasn't a harsh warning, but it was enough for any smart horse to take a hint. She pinned her ears back at the man to get her point across. Even if they succeeded in taking her away, which she knew that they wouldn't, she wasn't going to make it easy for any one to get near her, let alone ride her. She stamped her hoof, and snorted, to let the man know that he wasn't welcome here.

Daniel saw the mare and smiled before standing and showing no fear like it said in the book. #2. Walk slowly towards the horse, and avoid staring right into their eyes! Talk quietly and soothing and avoid making any sudden movement, which can scare the horse. So he did exactly that. Daniel started to walk slowly toward the horse but avoided eye contact comepletely "now now, its ok, I won't hurt you" he said softly and continued walking toward her.
Eagle stared at the mare, daggers shot from her eyes as she looked at her "back off girl, I can stay as you see...the tack is off" she laughed and tossed her mane happily. Eagle stepped out of the trees and into the sunlight. Her white coat glimmered in the sun and then she quickened her pace to a canter. She cantered around the lands, her silver banner flew in the wind.

Kohia eyed the man. She wasn't stupid. She had gone through this process several times before. She pinned her ears back at the human, and sent a low, warning nicker. If he didn't take this in, she could easily kill him. Although a light mare, she took nothing from humans. She hated them with a passion, after her whole family had been taken. She wasn't going to be turned into a pet. She would never have her spirit broken. She had been in captivity before, and she had enjoyed playing with the peoples minds, letting them get on her back, and then bolting, bucking and kicking, until they fell in a heap on the ground.
She watched the mare out of the corner of her eye, making sure she did nothing out of order. The mare could stay if she wished, so long as she was not under the control of the man. The man had to leave. He had to leave now. Weather the mare stayed was none of her concern right now. She trotted towards the man, ears back, her intentions set. She would teach this man a lesson. She snorted as he spoke to her. 'I won't hurt you'. The damage he could do was worse than any injury.

Daniel saw the horse snort so he read the third step in his book #3. When you get close enough to the horse, slowly turn sideways! In horse language, this means "come to me". He was sure he was close enough so he turned sideways and waited for the horses next move as he now had to wait for her for him to make his next move otherwise it would be fatal.
Eagle took a bite of grass and she lied down, watching her master trying to capture the mare. "He knows what he is doing, and wow, 'come to me' in horse language is awesome" she laughed and then put her head on the ground and watched Kohia carefully. She hoped that the mare wouldn't hurt her master as he would be up and attacing Kohia in a flash if she laid one hooves on her master.

Kohia watched as the man turned sideways. She knew what this meant, but she had no intention of going to him. She wasn't stupid. She knew what the man wanted, and she wasn't going to give. Instead, she rose up, into a rear. She let out a neigh, that was obvious, even tov a human, that she would fight if they didn't get out of her land. She would fight to the death if needs be, and she would win.
She heard the mare laugh. She came to the ground lightly, but the way she did it got her point across more defiantly. She shot a glance at the mare, saying that she had better get out of her home. Kohia then trotted round, behind the man, and sniffed the tack. The stench of dead cow filled her nostrls, but she didn't flinch. it was obvious what she was about to do, but she would only do it, if the man and his horses didn't take a hint.

Daniel turned when he felt her behind him "fine baby, I will leave you be" he said and whistled Eagle over. "Be well and I hope you find some nice stallion for your herd" he said and stretched out his hand and quickly stroked her neck before drawing his hand back quickly. He was growing attached to that horse and he really wanted to keep a eye on her but she didn't want to be with him so he had to leave. A single tear ran down his cheek as he said goodbye and started to walk out of the land.
Eagle trotted over at the whistle and she didn't follow for a second when her master started to walk away "he really likes you, you can see he is leaving because he loves you and he doesn't want to break your spirit anymore" she said and then trotted toward her master and walked away and by his side.
