Stella looked on in silence as the crowd dispersed. Funny, that was. How easily people let these things go here. In California, this kid (yes, she did think of him as a kid despite the fact that he was six inches taller and four years older than her) probably would have been trampled to death, or worse. But here, in the country, people might talk about him for a little. There might be a quiet ripple through the town. But, like all ripples, it would fade off. And mostly people would just work, and not care about anything else. In a strange way, it was funny. How rapid her retrogression into this kind of life had been. She detested anything that rocked her quiet waters. She looked on in interest, and couldn't help but laugh as he suddenly yanked his hand away from the collie that licked it, as if he'd been struck by lightning. "Man, I'll bet you're a hoot at a crime scene," she sneered, rolling her eyes. It was the first thing she'd said to him, and it was as silvery-tongued as ever. Now she was stuck in a room with a masochistic, mysophobic man and his raving fan club. Great.
At that moment, a doberman burst through the door, and Stella shuddered involuntarily. She did not like dogs. No, she really, really, really didn't like them. She was almost a cynophobe, actually. And the shepherd of unusual size was already in the room, with two thousand pounds of pressure power in his jaws, at his bidding at any given moment. Now there was a doberman. Slightly less pressure power, but just as dangerous, and probably even easier to rile, since he was slightly less obedient to his master. Stella took her eyes off of the dog to look at the owner. She knew about Coal to Fire, she had heard about it while she was looking for a place to work. A little too rural for her, one of those places where she'd have to be cleaning stalls if she wanted to be a show rider. And that was not exactly to her taste, needless to say. A sneer crossed her lips as this 'Z', gave yet another pseudonym. Zig-Zag? What a joke! She might as well just go around calling her self Stella-Fella, for goodness sakes. Albeit, that had slightly less of a ring to it.

Roxanne
She lifted an eyebrow at his name. Or rather, what he gave her to call him. "Nickname I presume" She said with a small smile tugging at her lips. Her brown eyes lit up as her asked about her home. "Ranch, I hope to own several racers and maybe a couple jumpers. At the moment I only have a racer." She smiled, then turned when she heard her order being called. She picked up the steaming cup, and cast a sidelong glance at the now calm, Rage. She hoped he wouldn't act out while she was drinking her coffee. That would be a disaster for sure.
Roxy caught some whispers going around the room and she glanced around, trying to figure out what they were doing. Several people stopped talking as she looked over at them. She found this odd, but turned back to Zig. She felt odd, in the least, calling someone Zig Zag. So she just went a called him the first part, then again, she felt weird calling him that, but she had nothing else to call him other than what he had given her.
The shifting of Rage, caused Roxy to glance down at him. He seemed to be watching the other canine. She gave a swift tug of the lead, and said the sit command. Rage looked up and gave an innocent wag of his tail, and then sat down, albeit, grudgingly. She looked back up, "So, what's all the hype about?" She questioned him, generally curious. She looked away, spotting someone that was vaguely familiar, her was Stella right? She looked kind of disgusted by everything that was going on. Roxy shrugged and looked back at Zig.

"Oh, you mean the whole 'Mad Fan Club' thing? Yeah, happens everywhere I go... strange really, you solve a couple cases that would take any other detective five years to solve in less than a year, and, next thing you know, you have newspaper illustrators, authors, even a couple movie dealers going on about you..." he shrugged. He then chuckled, "Besides, I don't let fame go to my head... I'm just your average ordinary everyday top-rated detective in the world..." he then smiled, then he shrugged "But, all the same, I'm a kid at heart... and aside from that, I find it's only easy to talk about your accomplishments when you're near someone you're most comfortable with..." he said, smiling at her. "And, one other thing, did I mention I make, oh, say, $100,000 a month for one case every month, and another $50,000 for every extra case I take on... so, $150,000 a month times twelve months is..." it didn't even take merely took a second for him to continue with "$1,800,000 a year.... times ten years, equals" less than half a second "$18,000,000... yeah, I'd say I'm pretty good at stuff like that..." He said with a wink and a smile.

Roxanne
"Yeah, that kind of thing" She said with a grin, sipping her coffee as she listened to his explanation. She tilted her head slightly, confused at his answer. So he was a detective? That was odd enough for this small town, but one that was so 'famous'? That was beyond strange. Maybe he was here for a break from big city life, that would make sense. She shook her head and chuckled as he said it was only easy to talk about with someone he was comfortable with. "You must get comfortable with people fast then" She replied, teasingly. A glint of humor in her brown eyes.
Her eyes widened a fraction as he spouted off math, she understood of course. She understood that he was rich. Which didn't really make her uncomfortable, or make her look up to him. The only thing that could make her impressed was the way someone dealt with animals, more specifically horses, or, just their personality in general. She smiled and shook her head once again as he winked at her. "Your good at what?" She asked him innocently. "Math or being a detective?" A mischievous look appeared in her eyes.

He smirked. "Technically, you have to have an advanced knowledge of math to be a detective, so, I'd say being a detective in general..." He said, grinning at her. "Ah, one second..." he said, picking up a pencil from a nearby table, twirled it in his fingers, then placed the palms of his hands on either side of the pencil, then brought his palms together, making it seem as though he had completely crushed the pencil, then balled his hands together, and when he pulled them apart, there was now a white, thornless rose. He smiled, handing it to her, "Here..." he said, smiling a bit. "I took a couple of years off being a detective in training to learn a few magic tricks..." He said, smiling at her, he then clasped his hands together behind his back, and tilted his head again, watching for her most honest reaction.

"Well, I guess that shows how much I know about being a detective" She returned his grin with one of her own, bright and happy in general. She reached down a hand and patted Rage's head, he glanced up at her with his large brown eyes, looking entirely to pitiful for a large canine such as he was. She chuckled but looked back up at Zig, a hand still resting on her dog's sleek head. His words reached her just a moment before he picked up a pencil from a table that wasn't to far away from where he was standing. She raised and eyebrow at this , but said nothing, simply waited for him to complete whatever it was that he was about to do.
Curiosity sparked in her eyes as he twirled it and then put it between the palms of both of his hands. She watched as he, seemingly, squashed the pencil. A magic trick, of that she was certain. But it appeared that he wasn't quite done. She watched as he pulled his hands apart and presented a beautiful white rose, with no thorns marring its beauty. When he handed it to her, she was slightly startled. Again, she thanked silently that she didn't blush. Roxy was a tomboy and had never really had anyone give her a flower. So, she resorted to her normal personality. "Wow!" Her usual enthusiasm bubbling out. She looked up at him, her brown eyes sparkling. "I can't imagine learning anything like that." She chuckled and took the flower delicately from his hand, almost as if she was afraid she would break it.

Z smiled, shuffling his bare feet slightly. "Sooo...." He murmured. not entirely sure what he wanted to say next at that moment. So, he just smiled at her and asked, softly, "Umm, you want to... umm, go out sometime?" He asked timidly, as though afraid of being rejected, but he asked it with a smile. "Seeing as I'm here for a couple months or so, I'd say I'm free almost anytime within the next couple months..." He said, chuckling nervously. "Or, if there's anything I can do for you.... you could just give me a call, as soon as I find a place to stay, that is..." He said, smiling at her ever-so-sweetly as he tilted his head once more, watching her with interested curiousity.
The German Shepherd, Jerry Lee, looked up at his master curiously, wondering why he was acting so very strangely.

She tilted her head as he started to say something, very hesitantly for that matter. Her brown eyes held a question as she waited. Suddenly, he looked almost like a young freshman trying to find the courage to ask out the girl he liked. The thought came as a shock, and a wave of panic took over, was he trying to ask her out? Her thoughts were confirmed when he managed to force the words out of his mouth, slowly, and seemingly afraid that she was going to say no. Roxy had had people ask her out before, and it had usually been easy to say no. At the time, she just wasn't interested in dating. Problem was she did like Z, just a little, but she wasn't sure if she liked him as more than just a possible friend. For some reason, when he asked her, Rory popped into her head. She blinked slowly, trying to clear her mind, why in the world did she think of him? It wasn't like he liked her as anything more than his best friend...
"Uh.. well, you see..." She stumbled over her answer, unsure of what to say. This was getting awkward. She just needed to answer. "Sure." It came out of her mouth and she was almost surprised to find that she was the one who had said it. She cast him a tentative smile, "I have a employees building next to my house that you could stay in while you're here, if you wanted that is..."

A young women strode through her street, her obedient Pomeranian tucked under her lightly tanned arm watching the world. Her orangery-red hair bounced lightly with every step of her long, slender legs. She was wearing high heeled boots, a tight jumper which showed of her curves, which were all in the right places, and long, skinny jeans. Everything she would wear made the woman look amazing. Her icy blue eyes were set perfectly on her beautiful face, they danced around the street before setting on the coffee shop. There was a crowd of people and she raised a eyebrow while Spice, her Pomeranian, yapped as she saw the dogs. She walked into the shop and saw 'Z', a girl told her about him and she walked quickly to the table next to his, her eyes were on him. Her dog lied on bench and watched the Shepherd and Doberman curiously.
Her name was Vivian, Vivian Ward. She owned Chestnut Ridge and was rich and posh. She then stood and ushered the crowd away from 'Z' "out of my way" she said and they moved while her dog trotted by her heels with no leash. She then reached the table and looked at 'Z', her hair sparkling in the winter sun, "hi, I am Vivian" she said and gave him a dazzling smile which showed her pearly white teeth. Her dog then yapped and she held her arms out so Spice could jump up. She tucked the dog under her arm and then Spice cocked her head at the Shepherd. Vivian laughed and patted the dogs head so she wagged her tail happily. The girl sitting opposite 'Z' was very plain, she didn't even flaunt any of her looks. She rolled her eyes and Spice yapped loudly, her tail wagging excitedly.

Z held his breath while he waited for an answer, then when she did say 'Sure.' he felt as though he had died and went straight to heaven. Finally, he exhaled his breath, smiling He held out an arm and rested his hand on her shoulder, murmuring a "Great." with an air of relief. "And, sure, I'll gladly stay there..." He said, smiling at her.
Jerry Lee seemed confused, he leaned on his master, almost as though he was worried for him. Z merely reached down and stroked Jerry's head.
Z, then, looked back up at Roxy. Thinking silently {She has no idea, how happy she just made me... possibly the most lonely guy in the world... but, all the same, she said she would go out with me, and that, so far, is all that matters right now..." he then smiled and said, softly "Thank you," with the slightest of sweet smiles.
Z then looked at Vivian, he smiled at her, "Hi, I am Z, you can call me Zig-Zag or Zig-Zag-Ziggy... whatever you prefer..." He said softly, resting his head on one hand as he looked from Roxy to Vivian. Wow, he was popular today.

Vivian smiled at the name "lovly name, Zig-Zag!" she laughed and tossed her hair. She looked at him and then smiled, easily coming out with the words "so, do you want to come round my ranch anytime. Its huge, and the house is like a mansion with a spare room. Not to mention with the most expensive facilites" she said, her accent english. She came from Mayfair, her parents still in England but she had moved to this town. Spice looked down at Jerry Lee and Vivian happily put her down. She then grabbed the attention of a waiter who smiled at her but she ignored the flirting gesture, she wanted someone else in this place and he happened to go bye the name of 'Z'. "Uh, a coffee please. Black, no sugar" she then pulled up a chair to the end of the table and sat. She hated the idea of loads of sugar and fat, she wouldn't have her amazing figure without watching her diet carefully.
Her dog was spoilt though, she had steaks and on sundays a roast dinner. She loved her dog to pieces, they went everywhere together, Spice was so obediant she didn't need a leash though most times she was in Vivian's arms. The waiter came back with her coffee and she saw the creamy brown colour, it had milk "I though I said black!" she snapped and Spice growled immediatly at the waiter. He made a quick apology, took the coffee and almost ran away to the desk. She smiled then and stroked Spice's head and then the Shepherd. He was beautiful, very healthy and she couldn't help but smile at the dog. She liked big dogs but her tiny Spice was just cute as could be. Vivian looked at Zig, his features but mostly his eyes. They were just so intelligant, she gazed into his eyes happily.

Z smiled, then chuckled, "Oh, I'd gladly come to visit, but, I already have a place to stay now..." He said softly, don't get him wrong, he did think she was rather pretty, but he was, currently, seeing someone as it was, plus he already had a place to stay that was fairly close to her. He supposed if either Vivian or Roxy wanted to date him very badly, the only fair way, was one of three ways: Draw straws, fight over him, or else a duel of wits, he wanted a smart and pretty girl, but, they were both very pretty, so, either way, he would wait for whoever would win either of those three, or two out of three, before he chose. And if both won two rounds and the last was a draw, it would result in a final challenge. He chuckled and said "And what is it that you do for a living, Vivian, right?" He said, smiling at her.

Roxanne
Roxy smiled at Z when he accepted her invitation to stay at her ranch, but the smile quickly slipped from her face as a young lady walked up. Vivian Ward. Roxy grimaced inwardly, but no one could tell what she was feeling if they looked at her. Her entire face held no expression and her eyes were blank as she watched Vivian sit down. It was obvious that she liked Z already. Roxy continued to wait, sure that it wouldn't be long before she introduced herself to Z. 'Feel free' Roxy thought, it wasn't like she was going to fight over a guy. That would be just stupid, besides, she wasn't sure just how much she liked Z yet.
She was disgusted by the way Vivian almost threw herself at him, flaunting her riches, and not to mention her beauty. Roxy really didn't care about looks, and she hated makeup and dressing up, so if Z was interested in that kind of stuff, he might as well asked out the other girl. One eyebrow raised as Vivian blew a fuse over having some cream in her coffee, she was barely able to supress her chuckle at how outraged she was over the small mistake.
Roxy kept her comments to herself, merely watching what was going on. She glanced at Z as he asked Vivian a question. Her gaze switched to the young woman, waiting for her to answer. A small, polite smile lay on her lips, but other than that, her face remained carefully blank.

Vivian looked in Roxy's direction at the chuckle. Her hair fanned out and settled immediatly as her head stopped "some people care about their weight honey, so I wouldn't laugh" she said and let her dog jump on her lap who made a low growl in Roxy's direction. She listened to Zig and smiled "I own the ranch, play the piano loads and shop!" she loved to play the piano. She was amazing at it, her fingers always danced over the keys when she played. Vivian had a grand piano at her ranch house, she played it as often as possible. "Oh, and don't forget my baby Spice" she said and her dog wagged its tail as she said her name. The waiter came back with her black, sugarless coffee so she sipped it delicatly. She looked again in Roxy's direction "sorry, looks like Spice doesn't seem to like you much" she said but there was a smirk on her face. Her dog was always off her leash, even when going out and right now she was sitting comfortably on her owners lap. She could see over the table and was looking at either person other than her mistress.
She stroked the dogs fluffy coat, it was soft and silky at the same time. Depending on how far you went in to the large coat. Her dog then cocked its face to one side again and looked straight at Zig. She whined a little, wanting to be stroked by the man her mistress obviously liked. Vivian however just sipped her coffee and let the dog do what it pleased, she was doing no harm so why tell her off for something she didn't do. The doberman that Roxy had was hideous in her eyes, big and horrible. She liked Shepherds because Zig had one, if he had a Doberman she would like it but it was Roxy's dog so she wouldn't like it. Her eyes finally focused off the dog and back onto Zig "I hear your a detecive, maybe you can try and solve the case of getting my number" she laughed and looked down at her dog who was still whining at Zig.

Zig chuckled, remaining polite however. And asked, "I'm afraid I wouldn't be that good at finding a certain phone number without a last name..." He said, thinking she just wanted to talk. As a lot of girls who 'thought' they were serious about him were just all talk and no 'play.' He then smiled down at the Pomeranian, "Spice, eh?" He smiled, "Cute name for a dog... my dog's name is too ordinary..." he chuckled, then nodded down at his dog saying "That is Jerry Lee..." softly. "Well, well, making friends everywhere I go..." he said, chuckling slightly as he gently scratched behind Spice's ears. "Of course, I got him from the Police Office after solving the 15th case in ten years that was far too difficult for other detectives to solve..." He then smiled at Roxy, saying softly "So, Saturday good for you?" He asked Roxy softly, gently stroking her hand. He meant nothing nasty by it, he just thought of stroking a person of the opposite gender's hand to be a very loving gesture...
