Sophia sat quietly in the saddle as she and Sargent made their way down the trail in front of them. Her eyes were constantly scanning the area, taking in every piece of scenery she rode past. It was cold, and there was a fresh dusting of snow on the ground. There had to be almost 3 feet of snow in some places. The trail was cleared, and the snow was packed so it was easy to ride on. Despite the cold, Sophia loved riding in the winter. It was so pretty at this time of year. Sargent seemed to like it too.
As the trail curved to the right, Sargent began chewing on his bit. The ground beneath them was soft from the 2 inches of fresh powder. With a smile, Sophia gently squeezed her calves against the stallions sides, asking him to move forward. Sargent hurried into a trot, surprised by her sudden command, then as she continued to squeeze, he moved up into a smooth canter. Sophia did not ask him to speed up any further, seeing as she didn't know if there was any ice beneath the snow. Sargent could recover if he slipped at a collected canter, but probably not at a full out gallop.
The pair continued to canter until the trail started to curve again, then Sophia brought Sargent back to a walk. She gave he a pat on the neck and smiled. There was steam coming off of him, because he was warm and the air was so cold. His breath was coming out in big white puffs, like hers. We'll just walk for a while boy. Loosening her hold on the reins, Sophia relaxed once again. She snuggled her face into her scarf, needing the warmth.
Looking around, Sophia started to panic a little. She didn't really know where she was, and it was starting to snow a little. Oh no. I can't get lost, in a blizzard. Glancing around, Sophia tried to relax, but her panic was increasing as the snow started to fall harder. She decided to turn back, and follow their tracks home. She had to hurry, because the snow was covering them quickly.
